The Degodehaus with its strikingly decorated facade is one of the oldest buildings in the city. Built in 1502 by Christopher Stindt, it survived the great fire of 1676 and is today the last medieval patrician house in Oldenburg. The half-timbered building got its name in 1860, when the merchant Dietrich Wilhelm Degode from Phiesewarden opened a colonial and manufactured goods store with a coffee roastery here.
