Open and accessible. Interesting story of how the fire brigade did their jobs back then.

The oldest and best-preserved "fire station" in Denmark is located on Fanø. It is a fire station where the fire engine and fire-fighting equipment have been stored since 1868. The historic brick building with a wooden gable, hatch, double-wing door and thatched roof now serves as a memorial against the omnipresent fire hazard and a museum. Until 1868, firefighting was decentralized: Since 1805, Sönderhos ladders, fire hooks and leather buckets were stationed at 4 important locations in order to have quick access to equipment in the event of a fire.
