Nice cafe on Gemündener MaarHelmuth von Moltke monument: Moltke became after the brilliant military successes of Prussia in 1860 and 1870/71 one of the most important figures of the former state. After his death in 1891, the dauners did not hesitate to honor this personality. Moltke's visit to Eifel and the fact that he had just celebrated his 47th birthday on the edge of the Gemündener Maares were reason enough for the Dauner Eifel and Beautification Association and other citizens to commemorate this and to commemorate the famous general.
On Sunday, 2. 9. 1894 it was time. The new monument, in honor of Moltkes, could be solemnly unveiled. Let us follow again this festive act, which at that time moved Daun, and today - in a similar case - hardly any one could gain a "weary smile".
