On the border between Leichlingen and Leverkusen the Murbach is dammed to a lake. The 9-ha Diepental dam (also: Diepentaler dam or Halbachtalsperre) consists of a pre-and a main barrier that was built by August Halbach at the beginning of the 20th century to generate electricity. Were flooded the remains of a former moated castle, which dates back to the 13th century and was the seat of the Knights of Diepental.
The Diepentalsperre is today a popular recreational destination, which comes up with all sorts of infrastructure. In addition to gastronomy there are some Nordic walking trails and hiking trails.
