Heidi Kabel was the most famous folk actress of the Hanseatic city. She gained great fame through the play "gossip in the stairwell" at the Ohnsorg Theater. To this day, her name is closely linked to the theater.
2011, the Heidi cable monument, a life-size bronze figure, was inaugurated on the Hachmannplatz and renamed part of the square in front of the new Ohnsorg Theater in Heidi cable place.

On 4 September 2011, the Heidi cable monument, a life-size bronze figure created by the artist Inka Uzoma, was inaugurated on the Hachmannplatz with a ceremony. At the same time, part of the square was renamed in front of the new venue of the Ohnsorg Theater in Heidi-Kabel-Platz, which means that the Ohnsorg Theater now has the address Heidi-Kabel-Platz 1. On the occasion of her 100th birthday, the NDR reminded celebrities such as Ina Müller or Hella von Sinnen an Kabel by a 45-minute broadcast on NDR television.
She died of old age at the age of 95. The memorial service in the St. Michaelis Church in Hamburg was broadcasted on NDR. Heidi Kabel was buried next to her husband at the Nienstedten cemetery in Hamburg. The tombstone bears the Low German inscription "To't Life Hears de Dood" (German "Life belongs to death").
