The drinking hall was built between 1915 and 1916 by the Hamburg architect Fritz Schumacher. Originally the hamburgers received medicinal water here. Before the opening of the café and the monument-specific renovation, the drinking hall was used as a senior citizens' meeting.
For coffee and cake or a cool refreshment on a trip to the city park, there is now another nice place. On Südring 1, a café and beer garden opened in the spring of 2013 in the historic walls of the former Trinkhalle. When the weather is fine, it sits beautifully on the large terrace overlooking the extensive blind garden.

Fritz Schumacher characterizes the Hamburg cityscape like no other and in view of "densification" and Bauwut I wish that so many Senate member may reflect on the concerns and ideas of Schumacher.Anyway, we still have our green city park and in the southwestern tip between Südring and Otto-Wels-Straße has been preserved with the Trinkhalle a small brick-pearl Schumacher. Originally, healing water was served here - hence the name.In 2013, the building was renovated and reopened as a café. Since the concept of full service on self-service with order at the Thresher has been changed, it is worth a visit again. Before that, there were always problems with the service during peak times: long waiting times, just to place an order, wait until the coffee arrived and if you were unlucky, the cake was brought separately - but only after the coffee was already cold , ;) The times are over now and our last visits were consistently positive. Normal waiting times, delicious cappuccino and a nice ambience. The menu is manageable; the prices raised. With a purposeful visit one should inform oneself before about the opening times, otherwise one stands already before closed doors. In addition, the building can be rented for closed companies and then of course not open to the public.Info: trinkhalle-im-stadtpark.de
