The name "Blauer Aff" was created in the 1930s. Previously called “Zum Rebstock”, it received its current name from vacationers from the Cologne area who stayed in Auerbach as a result of the “Strength through Joy” movement.
In the Rhineland, the expression “Aff” means “drunk”. Since the half-timbered house was painted blue and all guests were "blue", it was called "Blue Aff" today.
