This memorial stone is now a reference point for hikers, because at this path spider paths lead to Queichhambach, Leinsweiler, Annweiler, Ranschbach and Birkweiler. In former times a trade route led here between Hohenberg and Förlenberg past.
The memorial stone is meant to commemorate the customs office, as three dominions came together at this intersection. We read on Ritterstein, namely the area of the Palatinate, the diocese of Speyer and the Duchy of Zweibrücken.
After the French Revolution in 1789, the territories were dissolved.
