The Wilzenberg, called the Holy Mountain of the Sauerland, is with its 658 m altitude one of the most striking mountains of the Rothaargebirge and not only a place of pilgrimage between county and Winkhausen but also a pagan place of worship with visible ramparts. On this legendary mountain in the early Middle Ages a Wallburg and a Fliehburg are said to have stood. Next to the big summit cross, there is a crucifixion group with many benches in front of the Freialtar, as well as the Marienkapelle, Stations of the Cross and two other small chapels.

The summit cross, easily recognizable from the valley (county), was erected in 1972 and even towers above the treetops a good bit.

The striking summit has an eventful history. This is well explained on the various information boards.
