Mountain Biking Highlight
The Dreiherrenstein at the Great White Mountain is a historic landmark at 740 m altitude on the Great White Mountain in the Thuringian Forest. It is located about 5 km west of the Great Inselsberg away on Rennsteig. This Dreiherrenstein marked for centuries the borders of the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen, the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Kurhessen. Even today, the Dreiherrenstein forms a border point: Here the counties Gotha (with the district Winterstein), the district Schmalkalden - Meiningen (with the district Brotterode) and the Wartburgkreis (with the district Steinbach) meet.
At the Dreiherrenstein starts the Breitener Rennsteig, it leads southwards to Breitungen. In addition to the excursion restaurant Waldschänke is since 1913, the monument to Victor von Scheffel. With his work: At the beginning (1863) he helped the Rennsteig to further notoriety.
