An interesting contrast to the architectural character of the slender patrician houses can be found behind the Georgsbrunnen fountain. Here the half-timbered gables of the meat and dance house tower steeply into the sky. Is this possibly because the building was built on the foundations of the old town hall, which completely burned down in 1240?
The dance floor used to be swung above the cross vaults on the upper floor, while the butchers sold their clubs down below. To this day, the upper floor is a "place of beautiful robes" - the Historical Festival has its clothing store here. If you are interested in the works of Rothenburg artists, you are absolutely right in the basement! There you will find the exhibition rooms of the Rothenburger Künstlerbund e.V.
