A nature reserve of a special kind is the area between Plothen, Dreba and Knau.
A varied landscape with extensive spruce forests, formative ponds, silting up zones and wetlands.
A waterproof loamy clay is lying on a foothill of the East Thuringian Slate Mountains.
From the 12th century onwards, monks painstakingly created a pond system using the simplest tools, which can still be admired today. A large part of the ponds are still connected by ditches. The approx. 1000 ponds are also called heaven ponds because they are fed exclusively by precipitation and meltwater.
To scurry through here is a special experience for me.
You can also find out more in the Pfahlhaus am Hausteich, which is open to visitors every Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
