Tips

Without heavy luggage, crossing the harbor gate is an experience. With luggage, however, it is much more difficult to conquer the stairs by pushing the bike up the stairs in a sliding trough. So bring either luggage and bike separately over the bridge or drive around.

Practical connection also by bike (but must be carried high and back down) over the Rheinhafenzufluss

In bad weather, be careful when getting off the bike. The wheel likes to slip down faster with wet tires in the smooth metal rail than you can go down the stairs.

I like the harbor lock gate. But better not when it is wet (metal stairs) or with a loaded bike

With heavy wheels or trailers you should avoid the harbor (about 5 km detour). Otherwise it means the wheels push up the stairs and on the other side down again.

Crossing the gate by bike is certainly not recommended for physically challenged people.

Somewhat laborious to push the wheel up into the small sliding troughs. Above a nice view of the Rhine and the harbor basin.

The bridge can only be reached via the steep steel stairs. Elderly or physically disabled cyclists should follow the diversion.

Push here. It is best to carry the luggage individually, but it will be very difficult. But at least there is a gutter on the stairs, it makes it a lot easier.

Attention, with a heavy bike the crossing is very difficult - zigzag staircase.

With a heavy e-bike, women or physically challenged people cannot do this, or only with great difficulty, despite the pushing aid switched on. An absurdity with luggage. Avoiding the harbor is a better recommendation.
