Mountain Biking Highlight
The mermaid grotto dates back to the time of the forest, when the whole area was furnished with furniture. The sculpture was controversial at the time of its inauguration ;-).
In 1897-1898 the agricultural areas around the well were redesigned and the open Reinsbrunnen was bricked up for hygienic reasons.
There was a children's legend about this fountain that I am not aware of. The mermaid alludes to this. The design comes from the sculptor Kühlhardt. The bronze casting cost 700 marks and the stone setting cost 2000 marks. The stones come from the quarry in the Ebertal. Senator Borheck was against this too revealing portrayal of a "naked bronze woman".
