Hiking Highlight
Sophisticated water system that absolutely must be preserved and protected.
It's a shame that borki is now also putting forward his work.
Still very nice.

It is a miracle that the water has been winding through the dam for centuries.

The tour on the Dammgraben is really inviting. You learn a lot from the past, when the trenches were still used for mining.

Wonderful hiking section with small highlights such as the silver fountain or a great view of the Jungfernklippen ...

Nice section for hiking. Almost at ground level and good ground.

It is so wonderful to hike along the dam ditch. The idyllic babbling of the little brooks that flow down from the mountain is very refreshing.
Various information boards about the Harz water shelf are very interesting.

As a central part of the Upper Harz water regime, it is part of the monumental ensemble of the Rammelsberg mine, old town of Goslar and Upper Harz water management system and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010.
It's a pleasure to walk there. It's always nice

Cleverly laid out, one has to marvel at the art of the miners.

As part of the clearing in this area a little feast for the eyes =)

It is hard to imagine that this ditch once ran through the forest, shaded by trees.

Erected as a mining facility, the trench system of the Upper Harz water shelf is now used to supply drinking water.

The dam ditch flows rather gently on this section and is hardly audible. The artificially created ditch with a length of 19 km originally served the operation of the Clausthal mines. In order to bring in the necessary water, it was extended to the east in various expansion stages. Hiking along the Dammgraben can be very relaxed, as there is a fine gravel accompanying path. On this section you can walk very comfortably through the Harz Mountains and even for prams it is easily possible to the refuge (not anymore after that!).

Relaxed hiking trail with no incline but with a calming character.

In 2010, the Upper Harz water shelf became a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its uniqueness and large size.

Beautiful course of the stream along the hiking trail.

I do not like it anymore. Everything cut down. Dreadful.

A very beautiful route in both summer and winter, with many information boards

Reminds a little of the irrigation channels in Italy. You can always walk along the moat. There are even fish in it.

The kilometer-long Dammgraben was a special highlight on the Hexenstieg for me.
