The transformation into a garden was carried out in the following years following a common typology in the Renaissance garden. In 1634 the construction works of the Vigarani building were also completed, a beautifully made building that preserves the classic features of seventeenth-century architecture. Subsequently, after almost a century of neglect, under the court of Francesco III, the botanical garden was created, the internal structure of the park was restored up to the substantial changes that took place in the mid-19th century which gave us a "mixed" garden area. with an area with well-designed flower beds to maintain a formal connection with the various ducal buildings and the remaining grove areas.
Currently the park is strongly characterized by the original design and by the presence of the valuable Vigarani building which emerges from all the main perspectives. In terms of vegetation, the presence of trees belonging to different species of considerable size and importance should be emphasized.

The garden, which already existed in the second half of the sixteenth century, was enlarged by Duke Cesare and renovated by Francesco I, who also had the building attributed to Gaspare Vigarani built.
In 1739 Francesco III declared the gardens public, opening them to the citizens.
With the unification of Italy the area came into possession of the royal house, but seven years later, due to the high maintenance costs, the king returned the garden to the Municipality, which officially reopened it on 19 June 1870.
