Bike Touring Highlight
The Iburg was built in 1070 on a hill as a castle with a wooden chapel, the Benedictine monastery in it was founded in 1080. From the 11th to the end of the 17th century, the bishops of Osnabrück resided in the twin complex of castle and monastery. Art historically remarkable is the knight's hall from the 17th century because of its ceiling painting in perspective pseudo-architecture. Iburg is the oldest knight castle and beside the Holter castle the only mountain castle of the diocese.
