Hiking Highlight (Segment)
The Oostpolder (and the Onnerpolder) are located west of the Zuidlaardermeer, parallel to the Hondsrug between Haren and Noordlaren. Just like the other polders around the Zuidlaardermeer, they are part of the stream valley system of the Zuidlaardermeer area.
In the summer, lapwings, godwits, redshanks, shovelers, teal, skylarks, yellow wagtails and grass pipits breed in the Oost- and Onnerpolder. In winter, the Oostpolder and Onnerpolder are used by large groups of white-fronted geese. From the watchtower you have a beautiful view over the polders and you can spot all these birds.
