Hiking Highlight
Of the recommended hiking trails that lead to the highest peak in the Harz Mountains - and to the most visited mountain in Germany - the Heinrich-Heine-Weg is for many the most beautiful. The famous poet chose this route for his descent in 1824.
The scenic route leads on winding forest paths through the Ilsetal to the Ilse Falls, which are well worth seeing, and further, relatively steeply, upwards.
It's not a leisurely walk, but the climb to the Brockenkuppe is worth it.
Because the view is - on a clear day - simply spectacular.(Source: outdooractive.com)

Due to the massive deforestation, the original hiking trail was almost impossible to walk. There were felled trees everywhere. 😪
