The listed "Kármán" is named after the famous aerospace scientist Theodore von Kármán, who headed the Aerodynamic Institute of the RWTH from 1912 to 1934 and became one of the founding fathers of NASA after his emigration to the USA. The building complex was handed over to its intended use in 1977. The eight lecture halls are designed for a total of 2,017 students. Large parts of the Kármán auditorium are currently not in operation due to renovation work.
