The flag with the coat of arms of the city of Andernach hangs on the gate.
The coat of arms includes a black bar cross cut throughout in silver, topped with two diagonally crossed red keys, beards turned outwards.
The black cross symbolizes the sovereignty of the Archbishopric of Cologne for more than 600 years. The red keys refer twice to the Archdiocese of Trier, once as an attribute of the Apostle to St. Peter as the patron saint of Trier Cathedral and the Archdiocese of Trier, to which Andernach belonged ecclesiastically. On the other hand, the red color of the key refers to the red bar cross (on a silver background) of the Electoral Trier coat of arms.
