Here: initial planting for future beech forests. Originally, the Eifel was overgrown with domestic beeches until the Prussian Forestry Office planted fast-growing pines in the course of reforestation in the 19th century after the deforestation. These pines, popularly known as "Prüsseboom", are now being replaced by red beeches as part of the national park concept.
