Quite picturesque, the old wine-growing village of Château-Chalon is located on a rocky spur, with far-reaching views over the vineyards of the Jura - and is therefore rightly considered one of the most beautiful villages in France. Located on the GR 59.

Château-Chalon is located at an average altitude of 435m, about ten kilometers northeast of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura, at the transition from the plain of Bresse to the first Jurassic plateau, on a steep slope east of the Seille.
The jump from the plane to the first Jurassic plateau is particularly pronounced here. While the demolition edge is usually barely higher than 120m, it reaches almost 200m at Château-Chalon.
It is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France (plus beaux villages de France).
