The town hall was built in the years 1559-1561 in the style of the Renaissance. It is centrally located, and is the distinctive sign of the place. It is very similar to the Old Leipzig Town Hall.

The town hall was built from 1559 to 1561 by the Leipzig architect Paul Wiedemann to plans by the famous Renaissance architect Hieronymus Lotter. At the end of the Thirty Years' War (1644) destroyed to the outer walls and again badly damaged in a city fire in 1670, it was rebuilt in its present form. In the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century, the interior of the building was redesigned several times to adapt it to the respective requirements. In 1992, the town hall was thoroughly renovated.

Peggau has a lot to offer: a beautiful old town with the small version of the old Leipzig Town Hall and a romantic Flossgraben right next to it.
