Bike Touring Highlight
The Ruwer-Hochwald-Radweg uses the route of the former Ruwer-Bahn for more than 90% of its route and is one of the most distinctive railway cycle paths in Rhineland-Palatinate, along with the Maare-Moselle and Schinderhannes cycle paths. The first 2/3 of the route run in a steady, gentle ascent completely in the winding, narrow and absolutely quiet valley of the Ruwer through many cuts, dams and over newly built or renewed bridges. Between Waldrach and Niederkell (26 km) the route is away from local locations and only now and then a few houses flash through the green of the forest. The highest point is reached on the watershed between Kell and Reinsfeld. The last 10 km to Hermeskeil lead through a plateau-like landscape at the foot of the high forest.
