It was built between 1825 and 1829 by order of the Prussian King Friedrich-Wilhelm III. erected for the soldiers of the singer choir of the Russian colony Alexandrovka. The Russian Orthodox church was built in an old Russian style with classical style elements according to the designs of the court architect Vasily Petrovich Strassov.
