Mountain Biking Highlight
At the wooden gate is lowered. Behind the fence, which protects the Isar origin from the dust of mountain bikes, invites you to linger a little bench. Young birches and blueberry bushes, mountain auriculi and the stemless gentian line the tranquil village. In the background, the young Isar gazes and draws attention to himself. This is where the fourth largest river in Bavaria starts. Hardly anyone knows, however, that the official Isar origin is not a real source, but rather the place where three streams - karst springs from the overlying debris field - meet. Locals call the place in front of the Kastenalm in the Hinterautal therefore also "by the rivers".The whole Hinterautal impresses by the summit chains, to whose ascent one finds many starting points. The Hallerangerhaus in the southeast is a popular mountaineering accommodation. But even the Isar, whose course one follows, arouses admiration by the forces with which it has dug its course over the years. In view of the water-permeable Karwendelschotters it astonishes that so many streams spring here. With 350 springs throughout the area, the Karwendel is anything but water-poor! This is due to the fact that beneath the karstic limestone, a layer of clay prevents further infiltration and allows the water to emerge again at the foot of the mountains. However, this process does not happen quickly: many drops "ripen" for more than 15 years in the Karwendelfels, until they return to the earth's surface.Source and further information: karwendel.org/isarursprungIt pays to leave the bike at the fence for a short while and follow the path a bit ... here arises the Isar, which later rushes through Munich to end up in the Danube. The mountain bikers among us are certainly also the Isartrails in Munich a concept ... ;-)A beautiful place that invites you to linger ...
