Mountain Biking Highlight
The Schluchsee has a traffic jam target of 930 m above sea level. NN, making it one of the highest dam lakes in Germany. Originally it was a glacier lake of the Feldberg Glacier, whose mirror is about 30 meters below that of today's lake and was formed only by damming the Schwarza. He is about 7.3 kilometers long and 1.4 kilometers wide, the lowest point on the ground is 61 meters below the lake surface. The 63.5 meter high dam was built between 1929 and 1932. It is a part of the sewage plant and is in it the upper reservoir of the pumped storage power plant houses. This power plant feeds an average of 100 megawatts into the power grid. Apart from the naturally flowing Schwarza, or the Ahabach and over the Windgfällweiher the headwaters of the Wutach, the Seebraben and the Haslach also water from the Rhine near Waldshut is passed through pumping stations in the basin. Because of the altitude, the water is relatively cool even in summer and is especially popular with bathers and sailors. In contrast to Lake Titisee, it has easily accessible shores almost everywhere, which is why the lake is heavily frequented in summer. It is a popular leisure destination for the wider environment - beyond the Swiss border. Source: Wikipediea
