“The Treasure at Silbersee” was filmed here
But also “The Treasure in the Silver Lake”. In order to visit the former location, we would have had to take the shorter route. One of the lower lakes gave up the silver lake. And one of the around 100 caves in the national park, just above the lake, was the storage location for the treasure. The Karl May films of the 1960s: Winnetou and Old Shatterhand, Pierre Brice and Lex Barker. They were all filmed in the former Yugoslavia, in the Karst Mountains - and on the Plitvice Lakes. There was a political intention behind it by President Tito when he brought Western productions to his socialist, but non-aligned country. While doing research on the Internet, I come across a page that has stuck to Winnetou's footsteps and documents all of the locations. Film settings from then are meticulously juxtaposed with recordings from today: not much has changed in the natural scenery.
