Hiking Highlight (Segment)
This special mixture of flora and fauna makes the salt marshes in the national park not only interesting for animals, but also for nature enthusiasts and slow-downs. The silence and untouched nature let you forget the stress of everyday life and body, mind and soul can really breathe. The healing effect of a mixture of salty air and the medicinal plants in the meadows is to be noted.
The area of the salt marshes is only a few centimeters above the mean high water level and is regularly flooded. In the process, fine material sinks to the bottom and a silt layer develops, which becomes slightly higher after each flooding. Once the right height is reached, the source of the swelling settles, the first of many plants. The higher the silt layer grows, the more plants can settle. On average, the meadow grows 1 cm per year, which means that it is less frequently flooded and more and more plants can settle. The salt meadow is born.
