Bike Touring Highlight
The Römer-Lippe-Route - Section Lünen ↔ Haltern am See
An exciting connection between the tangible history and the beautiful river landscape is made possible by the bike tour on the Römer-Lippe-Route. For almost 300 kilometers, the main route between Xanten and Detmold stretches across NRW, especially along the river Lippe. This winds in numerous loops and with some floodplains to its mouth in the Rhine and is accompanied in parts by navigable channels. The tour also follows the trail of the Romans from the ancient Roman city of Colonia Ulpia Traiana via some proven Roman camps to the Hermannsdenkmal at the temporarily presumed place of the Varus Battle at the Teutoburg Forest. In addition to the main route, loopholes to the water or over the Romans with an additional total length of 154 kilometers exist in some places. In total, around 450 kilometers between the Teutoburg Forest and the Lower Rhine can be disturbed on this tour.
