An extensive ditch system west of the Panke is still managed and regulated by the state of Berlin from a water management point of view. Many hectares of allotment gardens stretch around Blankenburg, through which rainwater drainage ditches run in old guides.
Here are the Blankenburg carp ponds, which are touched by the Panke. They are managed by the Landesanglerverband Berlin. On the northern bank of these ponds, the Malchower river ditch brings water from a whole ditch system from the Malchower See to the left of the Panke. This ditch system east of the Panke includes the Schmöckpfuhlgraben, which today brings water from the premises of the Heinersdorf goods yard and the allotment gardens north-east of Heinersdorf.
