To the east of Reutte rise powerfully and impregnable the fortress of the fortress and fortress ensemble Ehrenberg.
    The castle ensemble Ehrenberg
High above the castle Schlosskkopf towers over the Außerfern. Every traveler and hiker is impressed by the long, massive walls that once were bulwarks against warlike attacks.
In the Middle Ages, the Ehrenberger Klause was hotly contested, but passed the main trade route between north and south. The massive walls give an idea that in front of the castle Ehrenberg often cannon raging and war cries could be heard. Many lords and noble people have seen the walls, but one thing is unchanged, the impressive landscape around Ehrenberg still captivates its visitors. Ehrenberg is today an indoor and outdoor adventure world with a historical background.

Ehrenberg Castle is the center of one of Central Europe's most important fortress ensembles. It is dominated by the baroque fortress Schlosskopf. Below the Ehrenberger Klause locks the valley. East of the B179 highway, Fort Claudia completes the fortification system.Ehrenberg was once a mighty defensive fortification, administrative center and customs post. Today, the four fortresses are known under the name "Burgenwelt Ehrenberg".

Here it is quite easy to estimate how far back it was when the castle was shelled.

It is also interesting how distorted the representations on historical drawings and engravings are.

The Ehrenberg castle ruins, visible from afar, whether coming from the north or south, are the center of one of the most important fortress ensembles in Central Europe. It is dominated by the Schlosskopf viewing mountain and below the Ehrenberger Klause blocks the valley. To the east of the B179 federal road, Fort Claudia completes the fortification system.Ehrenberg was once a powerful defense system, administrative center and customs post. Today the four parts of the fortress are known under the name "Burgenwelt Ehrenberg".A nice combination of story and adventure.
In the Burgenwelt you can visit the museum with lots of information about the history of the Ehrenberg castle ruins, the ruins on the Schlossberg and the ruins of Fort Claudia.
With the "Ehrenbergline" you can then go up to Burgruie Ehrenberg, the journey costs 7, - €, but you can also walk up in about 15 minutes. If you have looked at the castle ruins you can go even higher to the castle ruins Schlossberg (you have to walk here) or over the suspension bridge over to Fort Claudia.

The ruin Ehrenfeld is a wonderful castle ruin. Since it is on the 179, you should, if you have the time, there make a little stopover

The Klause am Katzenberg is first documented in 1317. Beside the Sperrmauer there was originally a Festes house. Under Georg Gossembrot a granary was added from 1482. The princely inventory of 1525 names next to the customs and post office also an inn.

At the beginning of the 17th century, the fortification on the northern side was reinforced by two bastions of Italian style. After 1618, a hornwork and other outworks were added. In the 18th century, a two-storey barracks was built. After the fortress was abandoned in 1782, the buildings were partially exploited. The first revitalization works began in the nineties of the twentieth century. The main building was restored and prepared for the reception of the European Castle Museum. The bastions, the hornwork and the barracks are also conserved and supplemented.
