Bike Touring Highlight
The village of Halen, which had been submerged by flooding over the Rhine in 1596, was located on the left bank of the Rhine on the territory of today's Duisburg Baerl district. Already proclaimed Halon in the year 900, it had been struggling for centuries with run-offs and flooding. The place of flooded in the year 1595 by the flood and then sunk in the Rhine Halener village church is today immediately north of here over the Rhine leading motorway bridge of the BAB 42. To the sunken village remember only the "Niederhalener Dorfweg" in Baerl and the "Halener Street "in Duisburg district Alt-Homberg.
