Monument commemorating the time of coffee smuggling 1945 - 1953 by the sculptor Klaus Gehlen from Mützenich.
May 10, 2018
The seizure of an “Opel Super 6” loaded with 260 kilograms of coffee beans and 85 tons of smuggled coffee belonged to three Mützenich smugglers' columns. Since 2012, the smuggler memorial has been a reminder of this exactly where the customs office and barrier once stood.
At the idea and initiative of Jacqueline Huppertz, the mayor of the "smuggler village" Mützenich, the monument was unveiled and inaugurated. Is it a fortunate coincidence in history that Jacqueline Huppertz's father, "Klooße Pitts Männ", was one of the three column leaders?
