Juniper heaths, typical landscape elements of the Heckengäus, were created by centuries of sheep grazing. They are often on steep southern slopes that did not allow arable farming. In landscape management, the living "lawnmowers" play an important role. With them, the typical biotope structures and thus the biodiversity of the flora and fauna are preserved.
