Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)
The Datteln waterway junction, also known as the Dalkeln Canal Cross, is a waterway crossroads in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Datteln, which connects the canals of the West German sewer system. There is also the seat of various water authorities, companies and associations. The distinction of the property as the largest channel node in Europe is obviously attributable to the then Dattelner Mayor Horst Niggemeier, who also called the 1969 Dattelner Canal Festival into being. In the Dattelner harbor there is no more transshipment, it is a rest and base with services (used oil disposal, drinking water supply etc.). There is a sports boatyard, the boats of the Marine Comradeship and the reservists club and boathouses of the water sports clubs. In addition to the waterways, the fortified paths along the canal are popular routes for cyclists and walkers. They partly run on old towpaths.Along the Dortmund-Ems-Kanal-Route you can cycle from the Dattelner Meer to the North Sea.
