At this vantage point you have a good view of the Hirschsprung. The "Hirschsprung" is a steep rock ledge on the right slope of the Hell Valley, below the viewpoint "King David". On the diabase tower there is a wooden stag about to jump. According to legend, a stag was chased during a margravial hunt in 1756, which - to escape the bullets - jumped from the ledge. The deer jump high above the Höllental offers a wonderful view of the valley and the surrounding area. It can be reached on foot via various hiking trails.

The so-called deer jump owes its name to a legend: one day a knight from Falkenstein Castle went on a deer hunt. After a while he spotted a magnificent stag, but the stag made it difficult for him because it was fast and nimble. Driven by fear of death, the stag jumped over the gorge with one mighty leap and thereby escaped its pursuer.
Such a sentence is hard to imagine today, given the gap, but it was not entirely impossible at the time. The gorge was only 9 meters wide, but a deer can jump downhill up to 10 meters in length. Breitnau begins at this narrowest point in the Hell Valley.

A very demanding route to get there, and sturdy shoes should be compulsory. Rewarded at the destination with a wonderful view

Only the short descent from the direction of King David View is signposted. If you turn back a few steps from the Hirschensprung and then look to the left, you can discover a small "chamois path" between two bushes. Provided you have the necessary surefootedness, this quaint and idyllic little path, which slowly climbs downhill along the contour line, offers a nice alternative in the direction of Blechschmidtenhammer.

We wondered from the valley which animal is up there. The highlight explained everything.

Crag "Hirschsprung" high above the valley with wooden deer; According to legend, at this point, several times cornered deer have tried to save themselves by jumping into the valley.

Nice place to rest - partially secured by a railing. The sure-footed hiker can continue to the deer without security. The way to the Hirschsprung itself is an experience - a really narrow steep path - surefootedness required!

Certainly one of the most beautiful places in the Franconian Forest! There is something directly "mountain feeling" on!

It is worthwhile to pause for a moment and enjoy the wonderful landscape and of course the great view of the "Hirschsprung".
