The "Wandseteich" is a retention basin and the largest body of water in the Stellmoorer Tunneltal. The Wandse dam, which was built in the 1950s, jams the river's irregular water loads and releases them slowly to the lower reaches. This leads to longer water than under natural conditions. The disadvantage of the retention basin: its water heats up strongly, which makes the life of typical running-water organisms in the lower reaches more difficult.
