The double cross stands on the old Kirchweg from Obermelbecke to Elspe. It is one of the few double crosses in the Sauerland. There are three stories for the double cross.
At the first, a wedding carriage is said to have overturned here and buried the bride and groom coming from the church in Elspe.
According to another story, two school children are said to have been killed by lightning there.
According to the third story, a Russian soldier is said to have died there in pursuit of Napoleon's defeated armies. (after Franz Kaiser: Elspe - an old church village in the Sauerland)
