Bike Touring Highlight
The "New Ride" of the Dortmund Ems Canal over the Ems was opened in 1939, as a replacement for the 1899 put into operation old canal flyover. First, both overpasses were used in parallel, until the old KÜ was heavily damaged in August 1940 in a bombing raid. Since 2015, the New Journey has been further expanded to allow larger ships to pass through.

The Dortmund-Ems Canal was built from 1892 to 1899 and ceremoniously opened by Wilhelm II. The old canal bridge over the Ems was built from 1892 to 1897 and was used until 1940. In a bombing in August 1940, the KÜ was hit. The canal water spilled into the Ems until the barrage northeast of the overpass could be closed. Since 1939, the new ride is in operation.

At the moment it is always worthwhile to drive by and watch the construction progress. I have documented this in new photos. It is safe to say that this is a century construction.
As already written, the surrounding landscape is also very beautiful. In fine weather you can hear the Nachtigal and in the evening the frogs quarken. Nearby (Gittrup in the west) is the Spargelhof Lütke-Lachsen and the Rieselfelder. On the canal east lies the Spargelhof Narup and very close is the marina Fuestrup with appropriate catering.
