Mountain Biking Highlight
During the landslide in April 1991, around 30 million cubic meters of rock thundered down the valley in 3 stages, burying 33 buildings in the Lerch district, the tracks of what was then the Brig-Visp-Zermatt railway and killing sheep and horses.
Although the Vispa was also buried, it did not back up due to the permeability of the boulders.
Fortunately, no one was injured or killed.
