The Moulin Rouge was opened in 1889, the same year as the Eiffel Tower. The name goes back to the famous replica of a red mill on the roof. The house has 850 seats and was visited in 2000 by about 420,000 guests. The Moulin Rouge has a large wine and champagne cellar in the basement. On one show evening, up to 800 bottles of champagne are emptied, about 240,000 bottles per year.
