Bike Touring Highlight
The Invalidenfriedhof is a historic cemetery and memorial site in the Mitte district of Berlin's Mitte district. It lies between Scharnhorststraße and Berlin-Spandauer shipping canal, north of the Federal Ministry of Economics. The facility is one of the oldest cemeteries in Berlin and is regarded as a testimony of the Prussian and German military history as well as a memorial to the German wars of liberation of the years 1813-1815.Destruction towards the end of the Second World War and during the GDR era, when a part of the Berlin Wall ran through the cemetery, resulted in only about 230 tombs being preserved on the 2.54 hectare site. A support organization of the cemetery strives since 1992 for preservation and restoration of the plant and tombs. (Source: Wikipedia)

The nice thing about cemeteries is actually the peace that reigns there. Unfortunately, this can not be said about the Invalidenfriedhof, as tourist crowds are being shooed through. Whether on bike tours or cemetery tours. And so a visit as a Berliner is only partially recommended.

The disabled cemetery is a historic cemetery where no burials take place today. It is now a park. If you want to know more about this cemetery on the Berlin-Spandauer shipping canal, you can find interesting information at foerderverein-invalidenfriedhof.de
