Dortmund kidney - cycling training track
The cycling training course in the midst of the green of Dortmund is a "legend" with many stories. Created in the 1980s on the initiative of the then sports department Erich Rüttel, offers the 798 -meter-long and paved track with a slightly undulating circuit on a former brownfield in the immediate vicinity of the Westfalenpark between the railway line and the Emscher both the cycling clubs and recreational cyclists training opportunities. However, the facility has long been a social function, with ambitious amateur cyclists, young people and seniors meet here a variety of cycling interests each other and so the system not only provides training facilities, but also versatile social contacts and is a regular meeting place for all sorts of groups here both under sporting aspects train as well as have many stories in stock and take care of the offspring.
The plant has its name through its route, which has similarity to a human kidney, the route has national recognition. Once a year, the Dortmund summer track championship is held here, at all other times the cycling training track is freely accessible to any interested cyclist without special opening hours or costs.
You can reach the track from the parking lot at the Buschmühle, 44139 Dortmund on the B54 / exit Westfalenhalle / Westfalenpark. From here, the rest must be put back on foot / by bike.

The Dortmund kidney is a cycle route and a cycling training course of the city of Dortmund and Dortmund cycling clubs. A 798 m long circular route (asphalted), which was built in 1980 on the initiative of Erich Rüttel, the then Dortmund sports department, on a wasteland between the bus line at the Buschmühle and the Emscher. Cost: DM 270,000. The kidney is now maintained and cared for by the city's sports and leisure businesses.

If there is not an event on the kidney, it is freely available to every cyclist, which Dortmunders always use a lot.
