Historic dam. A circular walk with e.g. A stop at the Rangerstation is recommended in every season.

Beautiful view of the Eckerstausee. Only a short distance from the Eckertalsperre. Also not far away is the Scharfensteinklippe with a rest hut in which there are drinks and small treats to buy.
The path is easy to walk and has a great panorama. On one side of the Eckerstausee and on the other side the forest. The Brocken (1142m) is the highest mountain in the Harz. It is about 5 km to this. The path invites you to rest and enjoy. A clear recommendation from me!

That the former border between the west and the east ran directly through the reservoir is of unique rarity. As a result, a place with a very special historical significance has emerged here. By the end of the 70s there were considerable problems with the water supply of Bad Harzburg.

Along the section there are everywhere very nice places to stay with great views over the reservoir and the Brocken.

The Eckerstausee is always worth a hike and relatively central starting point for many a different destination
