The Prussian port
Wanderwasserrastplatz and gateway to urban lifeLocated on the south bank of the Datteln-Hamm-Canal, the Prussian Harbor is well-connected in terms of infrastructure both for the region and for Lünen: It is a hub between Lünen-Süd, Gahmen and Horstmar - a 10-minute walk to the city center - and at the same time connects the adventure region Ruhr area with the recreational landscape Müns-terland.In its modern, modern form, the former coal port symbolizes the successful connection between yesterday and today for the population of Lüneburg and tourism. For the beholder, the Mohrkran, towering over the water's edge, is an impressive reminder of a bygone era. For 80 years, the region's Prussian port served well as a transit point for the black mining gold, and in the mid-1960s it was expanded to its present size. Nevertheless, the structural change did not stop at this harbor and its importance diminished steadily until 1995 when all loading activity was stopped.
