Tips

These are old Belgian tanks on the military training area near the Stolberger Donnersberg barracks. Certainly a highlight if you are traveling with children. Inform about the access to the military training area before the tour! To my knowledge, only accessible on weekends.

  • I don't really understand why I don't see this as a highlight, but here in the area there are 3 old tanks, 2 somewhat hidden in the forest and one in the meadow .. Super great area. The tanks are partly painted with graffiti, the surroundings invite you to linger. Nice meadow with a little heather landscape and a few pools. Very nice!!

  • Even if it is about popular playground equipment - it is kind of weird to discover such an empty tank in the middle of the forest

  • If you are interested in old tanks, you have come to the right place.
Since these serve as hard targets for the Bundeswehr, pay attention to the opening times for everyone! Are posted at every entrance.

  • It's great to take a closer look at tanks. How big these monsters are and how little space the crew had. You can climb into some tanks but be careful, some broken bottles.

  • Children will find an interesting climbing opportunity on the tank wrecks.

  • Do not enter the military training area when the red flag is raised.

  • The nature reserve "Brander Wald", which is located almost exactly between the city of Aachen and the city of Stolberg, is a quite tranquil gem on the south-eastern border of the city of Aachen and a popular hiking area for residents and dog lovers, as well as for the local THW, who is always happy to do his exercises in the area.
At the same time, this area is also a military training area, so you should always keep an eye out for a red flag, which symbolizes an active exercise and thus prohibits entry by unauthorized persons (you should definitely follow it due to the instinct of self-preservation). The resulting publicity of this place also subconsciously forbids me to market this property as a typical "hot place" of the Urbex scene - it's just a beautiful forest, even with its own Google Maps point.
As for the tanks, there are a total of 4 tanks in the entire area of the military training area, 3 of which are of the M47 Patton model and only one breaks the ranks and presents itself as the M41 Bulldog.
But I leave the search to the inclined explorer and photographer - there must still be a bit of excitement 😉
Then I would like to refer to the video and ask you to look at it (it was a lot of editing and freezing).
