Chapel and cemetery of fallen Polish soldiers in the Battle of Warsaw 1920 in Ossów

      May 19, 2020

In August 1920, Ossów was located at the front road that runs between the first and second defenses of Warsaw. On August 13-14, it was a place of fierce fighting. The village was attacked by the 235th and 236th Rifle Regiment of the Bolshevik 79th Rifle Brigade Grigory Chachanjana and the 16th Regiment from the 2nd Rifle Division. The 33rd Infantry Regiment and the 36th Infantry Regiment of the Academic Legion fought on the Polish side, supported by 221 and 236 volunteer regiments. In battle, both sides lost about 600 soldiers (killed, wounded and captured). About 100 Polish soldiers were killed, many of them aged 16 to 18. Father Ignacy Skorupka, the chaplain of the 236th regiment, also fell here.
