Heavy, wooden gate to the drawbridge
The drawbridge was completely renewed for the first time in the 19th century, later it was not functional for decades. Only since the extensive restoration in 2013 can it be pulled up like in the old days. As early as the 19th century it was reported that it was a difficult undertaking, today it is still a matter of skill and muscle strength of several men so that the 4.1 tons (including 1.2 tons counterweight) move upwards. The Wartburg is one of the few castles with a working drawbridge in Germany.
